I have been doing renderings for over 30 years. Some of these examples were created with perspective charts, overlays and ink drawings on velum. Others were created from reference photos pieced together and traced on a light table. These techniques have been almost entirely replaced by digital ones. I take great care in creating my digital renderings, making sure they still have that hand-drawn quality.
The initial drawing was laid out on a perspective chart and created from architectural plans, topography maps and Google Earth. The drawing was transferred to watercolor board. The overall colors and shading are airbrushed, with overlying details added with watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, and colored pencil. I now create this type of rendering digitally.

This is a composite of a traditional airbrush rendering (smaller inset image) and digitally rendered elevation and siteplan.

This is an airbrushed elevation. What is unique about this project is the fact that I airbrushed the mat surrounding the rendering as well to show the extension of light. The mission statement was hand-lettered onto the matboard, taking care to create the illusion of light hitting the tops of the each letter.
